Worship at Westminster focuses on:

  • The sovereignty of God and the centrality of Jesus Christ to our faith.

  • The anticipation of the movement of the Holy Spirit as we rejoice in the Good News that Jesus is risen!  Christ is risen, indeed!

The primary parts, or movements, of our worship:

  • Gathering before God

  • Hearing God's Word

  • Responding to God's word

The specific parts, or elements, of our worship:

  • The call to worship, call to and prayer of confession, hymns, anthems, and meditative and joyful music.

  • Central to the worship service is the reading of God's Word and the proclamation through sermon of the Word.

  • We respond to that Word by the offering of our lives and our gifts and through intercessory prayer for others.

  • The sacrament of the Lord's Supper is celebrated quarterly at Westminster, as well as on special holy days.

What to Expect: Your first visit to Westminster

Arriving

We have parking on the side of the church and in the back. There are two entrances on the East Whitaker Mill Road side of the church The stone steps lead to the narthex and sanctuary. The accessible entry leads to the lobby where you can take a right to reach the sanctuary.

If you park behind the church, you may reach the lobby via the stairs or elevator.

We will have greeters that offer a bulletin and a hearty “welcome!” at all entrances.

In Worship

Worship is approximately one hour long and is traditional in nature.  We collect a morning offering. Please don't feel obligated to put anything in the plate, though, you are welcome to do so!

We also have a "Passing of the Peace" during the service.  This is a time to greet others in the service with a "The peace of Christ be with you."

Refreshments and Fellowship

We have fellowship time in the lobby, both before and after the service.  Feel free to come a little early for worship, get a cup of coffee or hot tea, and meet others!

Remaining Connected

If you have provided contact information to us, someone will be in touch with you with a thank you note or call. We hope you had a meaningful experience in worship

Special Services

Throughout the year, we hold unique and special worship services, giving praise to God!

Thanksgiving Service:  We offer a Thanksgiving service on Wednesday evening, the week before Thanksgiving.

Christmas Eve Service: As we anticipate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we celebrate with an annual service of lessons (scripture readings) and carols (traditional religious Christmas songs), complete with an observance of Holy Communion.

Holy Week and Easter Services:  From Palm Sunday through Holy Week to Easter morning, we observe and celebrate Christ's death and resurrection.

Children in Worship

Worship is a wonderful time for family to be together and continue reconnecting in a spiritual way after a hectic week of work, school, and life in general. Children and youth of all ages are welcome to worship during the 11:00 service.

Sunday School is offered for children ages 3 to 12, where the children go, directly after the children’s sermon. Miss Rose and Miss Ann provide creative projects and lessons in Christian faith for them. Of course, baptism is a wonderful way in which we include children in the life of the church.
